Crabs are of various types black, coloured ,etc. Here I have used the black crabs which are known as chimbori in Marathi. CKP Chimbori kalvan is a mouthwatering spicy curry which is coconut based. The tender flesh inside tastes yummy.
Curry does not take time to cook but it takes a bit more time to do the preparation.
Ingredients
6-7 medium size crabs
2 sliced onions
2 chopped onions
2 tsp ginger garlic paste
1/2 tsp turmeric powder
2-3 tsp red chilly powder
2 tbsp tamarind pulp
1/2 cup dried coconut
1 inch cinnamon stick
2 cloves
7-8 peppercorns
Salt to taste
3 tbsp oil
Method
Clean the crabs thoroughly. Keep the claws separate. Marinate the crabs & claws with turmeric, red chilly, tamarind, ginger garlic paste, salt for about 15 minutes.
Grind peppercorns, cloves & cinnamon to powder. Alternatively garam masala powder can be used.
Take the thin walking legs separate. Grind them in grinder & strain the juice from it & keep aside.
Take few drops of oil & fry sliced onions in it till golden brown colour. Now roast grated dry coconut in it. After it cools, grind the roasted onions & coconut & keep aside.
Now take oil in pan. Add chopped onions & saute for a while. Cover & cook for 2 minutes. Then mix the marinated crabs & claws. Add the garam masala powder. Then mix the juice of legs & ground onions coconut paste. Let the curry boil. Add some water to make thinner curry.
When the crabs & claws turn bright red orange in colour , the crabs are cooked. Salt & spice can be adjusted according to taste.Chimbori cha kalvan is ready.
